Ooops. Just to be clear, the poem is an old rhyme I remember from years ago. The picture is not mine, just an illustration of the 3 magpies that I DID see.
Is that not a well known rhyme, regarding magpies? If you see 1, or 2, or 3 etc.
Sorry if I misled.
A double idiot so I am today.
Now I feel guilty and I'm gonna go find a pic of my own to post, I have a few Limericks too but not so suitable as most of them rhyme with wussy... ;-)
One for sorrow Two for joy Three for a girl Four for a boy Five for s ilver Six for gold Seven for a secret Never to be told Eight for a wish Nine for a kiss Ten for a time Of joyous bliss (I'll take that one, thank you)
One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret, never to be told, Eights a wish, Nines a kiss, Ten is the bird you must not miss! (That'll do me just nicely too)
One for sorrow, two for mirth, three's a wedding, four's a birth, five is Heaven, six is Hell, seven is the Devil himself. (that one can f*** right off!)
I am a sign believer too. I can't tell you how many things came through as what I thought was sign then boom, something I intuitively though would happen happened.
@BMP - I've never met one that's told me a fib yet, although I did have an encounter with a pigeon who had a tendency to over exaggerate.
@Baby~amore & Melinda - Normally I'm not a believer in such things, but when I saw it, my heart jumped, so whether I normally believe or not makes no difference, it DID make me feel a little better for a little while.
When we were TTC after William died, I was driving along to the hospital muttering to myself (as you do in the craziness of wanting a baby and it seeming unobtainable) I asked the universe why on God's earth was it taking so long? I had to stop at traffic lights and there on the telegraph pole was a sign for a band called TWINS, a month later I was pregnant, a month after that we found out that it was (insert twighlight music) twins!

A sign! A sign!
I could never remember what came after 2 for joy. Thankyou.
Isn't it bizarre how otherwise logical people will hang onto anything that could be a sign for what they want?
Madness beckons, but I'll take that chance!
Now that I think of it, that ryhme goes further than 7, there's something about a wake also in other versions.
Oh Dr. Google...
OK...
Dr Google gives me the following versions:
One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for s ilver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret
Never to be told
Eight for a wish
Nine for a kiss
Ten for a time
Of joyous bliss
(I'll take that one, thank you)

I hope you're proven right!
Thanks Kim.
yup. that definitely means you'll be having a girl. Magpies never lie.
Sweet, sad poem -
I remember the days when the little things would either send me into a spin or give me renewed hope. I hope it gave you hope !

Nice story Tiff, is there any chance that they would come play here in Holland...
any band called "QUINTS"?
Dude, they're just birds...LOL, best wishes as always!
This is like the fairy tale "the emperors new clothes" Joseph...
You're the only one to say what you see, and the kingdom shall be saved.
