Day One

She’s not broken.

I didn’t need the sellotape, the baby is unscarred, and the house is still standing strong. Ok, maybe the house is creaking a little but that has nothing to do with yesterday.

Yesterday, Thursday the first day of July in the two thousand and tenth year of the Gregorian calendar, we packed ET off to work and I began my first weighty and stressful day as a temporary stay-at-home father.

5 episodes of Dexter later all was still well with the world and the child. Granted her first word may turn out to be ‘disembowel’, but nobody’s perfect.

She laughed, screeched, drank, ate, and shitted with all the vigour of a drunk being beaten with a baseball bat.

Today, an action packed day lies ahead for us, oh the plans we have would make Barney’s place seem Guantanamo for infants. There’s lying in and napping, followed by world cup quarter finals, and then annual dramatic and entertaining elimination from Wimbledon of the only British man who knows what a tennis racket is.

Oh, and I think there’s some vaccination appointment or other thrown in there too. We might squeeze that in.

Don't forget to make the bed so ET thinks you've been keeping up with the housework.

Welcome to Stay-at-Home-Dadhood! Wait until the next go around of the World Cup, she might actually enjoy it. Mr. B is, and Miss L doesn't mind it too much either.

I'm glad things are going smoothly. How's ET doing with the transition back to work?

Sounds like a perfect day. We have a similar agenda over here - baby vaccinations and some fun time outside. Unfortunately the 6 year old has not been to receptive to watching the World Cup. I'm hoping she comes around when she is 10.

Isn't that WAY better than going to an office?

do the motherfucking dishes and it is NOT OK for her to wear the same clothes 4 days in a row.

When MPS was a stay at home dad with The Damn Emos when they were babies he spent his whole damn day either at playgroup where the other mothers would fawn all over him or at the supermarket where the other mothers would fawn all over him.

Well done joyful day. The yearly and four-yearly eliminations are over with. Thank goodness. Good luck up north.

you are awesome!! good for you for being with munchable Mango!

I hope ET had a easy transition. I will tell you, nothing makes a mom breathe easier than knowing her baby is in good hands and (as long as you don't have her cheering for some lame team during the WC) you are a great daddy.

My hubby stayed with our daughter for 8 months and it was a godsend! It's a special bond they will always have, too.

One day we were watching Dexter with our boy having fun between us. Dexter was remembering his childhood. Especially that whole sitting-in-a-pool-of-blood experience. That day we realized our boy was too old to watch Dexter, and we moved to Nick Jr. You still have a month or two to enjoy adult TV before trying to make sense of crazy kids' shows.

We love Dexter. He's so likeable isn't he?

Can't wait for all your Kids tv posts. You'll love them.

By now you will be having breakfast on day 1 so I hope you have a great week. The walkers I met yesterday seemed great company. Good luck!
